RETAIL SALES TAX PAYMENTS

Business owners preparing to pay their retail sales tax are advised to contact Ministry of Finance officials about getting extensions, says Denis Boyer, Staff Representative, Ontario Public Services Employees Union.

Business owners remit retail sales tax to the provincial government at regular intervals throughout the year depending on their volume of commercial activity. Those paying monthly in Sudbury are expected to make their payments by this weekend.

“We understand the dilemma many business people face in meeting deadlines imposed by the Ontario Government given the current job action being undertaken by our members,” said Boyer. “Though we will not be preventing those individuals from crossing our picket lines, they can expect some delays as we provide them with information about the situation. Given the circumstances, we are urging the government to offer extensions.”

Those scheduled to pay their retail sales tax are encouraged to contact the local Ministry of Finance office at 1 800 461-1564 for further directions.
